Russian scientists in parallel with their counterparts from other countries are continuing research on the creation of biomaterials that are compatible with the human body.

A breakthrough in this direction could be the work of Krasnoyarsk University staff on the creation of bone tissue using polyhydroxybutyrate. It is characterized by complete biodegradability and the possibility of 3D prototyping in combination with computed tomography.

The successful implementation of the project, according to Professor Ekaterina Shishatskaya, is a direct road to the creation of artificial bones that are biocompatible with human beings, as many generations of orthopedists have dreamed of.

Creating a bone structure on a 3D printer

Using the technology of additive prototyping, combining the capabilities of unique digital cameras and software complexes, today it has become possible to print special types of fabrics for specific situations on special 3D printers. Printing is carried out by the method of layer-by-layer fusing of a material. At the same time, the chemical structure of the polymer remains unchanged, and the need for a binding gluing component is completely eliminated .
